I have been looking for a recipe to make some simple biscuits for Marley to eat that are not full of sugar and so I found the recipe HERE and did my own version.
Ingredients:
- 2 x Bananas
- 1 C Oats (I used quick oats)
You can add really anything else you want:
chocolate chips, craisins, coconut, chia seeds, peanut butter, grated carrot, spices…
I added 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and a small handful of sultanas
Method:
Heat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius
I used frozen bananas which I defrosted first and then mashed up. I then added the cinnamon and mixed it all up.
Next I added the oats a bit at a time so the mixture wasn’t to dry. The one cup was a perfect amount though.
Then I spooned small amounts onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and baked in the oven for around 20 minutes.
Mixture makes 12 small cookies
Baking with Children
You can easily make these with your children’s help too! Get them to mash up bananas with a fork and measure the oats and stir it up. While children are involved in baking experiences they’re learning so much.
- When children help in the baking experience they develop: maths and science concepts with measuring, counting, stirring, mixing, change of substance, cause and effect.
- Children develop hand eye co-ordination and small motor control as they are using spoons, cups and bowls to add ingredients and mix.
- A sensory experience by smelling, touching the different textures and tasting the deliciousness.
- Using real utensils
- They are learning to follow instructions
- Literacy: Using a list, reading ingredients, writing a shopping list,
- Learning safety precautions – the oven is hot!
- Taking turns with other children
- Children develop language skills as you talk about the ingredients and what you are doing together
- promotes links to real life experiences and imitation. Have you ever noticed children imitating with there play food after they have been baking?
- It’s about the process not the product, they don’t have to look perfect. Lets hope they taste alright though!
I made these and my boy LOVES them!! So easy to make – might have to make some tomorrow! Thanks for linking up with us at Friday Favourites!
we make these – I quite like them too 🙂 (I have dip them in yogurt YUM YUM)
