A Subitising Game

Subitising is a term that was coined by the theorist Piaget and defined the ability to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without the need to count them.

Marley’s kindergarten teacher told me last year she was surprised he was already doing this so I was very happy. I could only put it down to all the dice games we play and his dominoes.

Last year before he started school we had school visits and the parents went with the teacher to learn some information about the transition to school and how parents can support the children in their learning.

The Maths teacher said she would love if children knew how to do this before they came to school but it didn’t matter too much if they didn’t as they would be learning about it in Term 4.

With Marley’s love of numeracyand games I made this for him out of some old cardboard and he’s been loving it all day.

Basicaly he just rolls the dice and puts a person on the matching amount of dots.

Super easy, cheap and you can do it with an old cardboard box in your recycling bin.

I have created one online you can easily download if you wish: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Subitising-5064209
